Pistachios belong to the cashew family and originate from Central Asia and the Middle East. In differentiation with other species in the genus pistachio, it is called Pistacia vera, or the “true pistachio”. Pistachios were once established as a “royal” food among different cultures for their savory flavor, and are popular in traditional Chinese medicine and Ayurveda for their warming and stomach-friendly properties.
